I was lucky enough to see Shaun Tan give a loooong talk to a local Melbourne science fiction club. There were only about 20 people there, and he must have talked for about three hours, armed with a laptop full of stills and animations of finished and partially finished work - including the animation of The Lost Thing.
I remember he got quite excited when he got to a particular 3d critter, happily pointing out to us that its texture had been scanned from an interesting piece of wood he found on the way to the video shop.
He was very generous with his time, and shows every sign of being a really nice guy as well as absurdly talented.
Squee!
ReplyDeleteHa, superbe !
