Stop the Suit Petition

The Graphic Artist Guild is suing 5 individuals -- Brad Holland, Terry Brown, Cynthia Turner, Bruce Lehman, and Ken Dubrowski -- for defamation. Whatever anyone's thoughts on reprographic royalties are, it is sad to see an artist's advocacy group suing individual artists for voicing an opinion.

To sign the petition asking GAG to drop the lawsuit visit Stop Suit Petition and email them your name.

Pass it on.

  1. Wow. Absolutely ridiculous.

    I'm speechless at this point.

I hope a great number of people sign the petition.

  2. i agree. brad holland was the illustrator's voice and chief activist against the Orphan Works Act, and i think the GAG is showing just how much it cares for our rights as artists by attacking him. Sign the petition. Protect the people who worked tirelessly to protect the rights of the artist.

  3. I've signed.

There's some avid followers of the Orphan Works bill on a science-art listserv, and it's been informative (and scary!), speaking as a Canadian illustrator.

  4. Criminal. I'm saddened by GAG and can't imagine that this reflects the majority view of its membership.

  5. GAG decided to back the Orphan Works Act with the excuse that, "it's gonna pass someday, so we might as well back this version." They were pretty critical of Brad then, in his fights against the bill. I never expected the animosity would lead to this, however. It's sad when there are so few groups advocating artist's rights, that they would end up fighting each other.

Are GAG membership dues funding the lawyers?
