I was one of those kids that would sit and stare and wonder for hours, her parents completely giving up trying to lure her away. I lived near a very good museum in San Francisco, and I made it a regular haunt.

I never had any idea about how much /work/ went into the displays -- I just recently had the pleasure of viewing the exactly displays you mention in the Natural History Museum in NYC -- that whole place just mesmerized me. To know this history of it, makes it all the more special - and all the more an imperative for me to travel up there with my children, so I can tell them this story as well.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

As a total aside, but not too far off the subject, the new film "Night at the Museum" is a wonderful romp, even for adults :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30983073.post-4470421355362786942007-01-03T23:58:00.000-05:002007-01-03T23:58:00.000-05:00FANTASTIC!!!!!! Whether art is sci fi/SF(take your pick) or just natural history, or just landscapes, good work is good work. And good and unusual work inspires. I find that diversifying my interests just makes me a better artist and seeing this, is pretty exciting!Bob Eggleton (Zillabob)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07049761592217486636noreply@blogger.com
