Animation

Stephan Martiniere tipped me off to this amazing animation from The Balckheart Gang, The Tale of How. This is super cool. It's worth skipping the Youtube link below and watching it directly off the Blackheart site, for better resolution.

That reminded me of another amazing bit of animation that I saw a few years back. Over Time. I watched this thing a dozen times in a row when I first became aware of it.

When I was in school I took two "history of animation" classes at once. One was taught at Copper Union by an experimental animator, Robert Breer, the other was taught at NYU by the more traditional John Canemaker. I had the best time that semester. I never really kept up with animation since then but, with sites like Cartoon Brew and Drawn, I'm starting to slide back into it. If anyone knows some good shorts, link away!

If you haven't seen Pyrats yet, it's adorable - http://www.pyrats.net/watch-movie.html . For that matter, so is pretty much anything from the Gobelins school.

That was great, Nicole. Lots of fun! Thanks.

I don't think that link to black heart was correct, but I would love to see their site if you could post a different link?

Those are fantastic. And all new to me.

I had a similar experience in college as well.

Here's one I was turned on to. Blur made this promo called 'Rockfish".

Enjoy!

I came across this one a couple of months ago (I can't remember where from): http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/filmnetwork/A11607040

It's called Run Wrake, and it's like walking through an animated 50's Dick and Jane book. Only more disturbing.

Korsaktion! - It's taking a while to load so I'll catch it after work. On another front, you'll be sad to know that my Air Guitar Hero ranking for "Shout at the Devil" is a whopping 22%! I did a little better with The Police but I don't think I missed my calling as a rock star.

Russell - That's a great one. Very strange. Once I shook the creeps out, I decided it was awesome!

How could I be sad? Rome wasn't rocked in a day. And it helps if you know the songs. I'm just glad to hear you got yourself in front of that game.

I gotta get some details. Where did attempt to shred? Not with the hooligans at Best Buy I hope?

Now that you've played it don't you think GH in the library for the Society's Halloween party would be a blast.

And Russ, that was some weird video. Why is it these animation samples have such an, I don't know, drug induced psychotic dream-like quality.

Here's another one for you. Weird AND sexy.

Those are pretty cool, there are quite a few to look through on that site.

That Run Wrake really is disturbing, but it's well done. I'm not sure if it's the happy kids, or the vilence, or just the oddity of the little idol, but it's certainly one to remember.

Thank you very much for posting both animations. This was the first time I had seen either of them, and they are both enchanting. I have always had a soft spot for puppet dancing, and the second film gets the movement just right.
You are invited to take a look at my blog at www.emilymiles.blogspot.com. I'd love to hear what someone with apparently excellent taste thinks....

Dang! You've covered a lot of my recent favorites!
Although it isn't strictly animation, it's a disturbing little short. By Neil Blomkamp.

From Goblins, an insane Tex Avery-like invasion tale.

...and the tale of how (and why) animation was invented...
