Thanks for the look at Palencar's studio. I'd heard of his night time sessions when he spoke at the University of the Arts, and thought it was pretty appropriate given his work. It makes sense that he works at night, surrounded by lots of skulls, horror movies, and wickedly gnarled pieces of cracked wood.

Awesome post, I've always been curious to see what his studio area is like..

When I first heard about Palencar's work schedule, I felt a great bit of relief because I, too, am a night worker. I'm not much of a morning person, even though I do enjoy a good cup of coffee when starting work. Generally I can't get working until the sun sets, but then I could work for a good 8-10 hours, easy, working from 7pm-4am.

And I also prefer my steaks to be Cypher Pink :)

Although not an artist, I can understand his preference for night work. When I was in college, whenever I had a test, I'd go to sleep around 6 pm & get up to study at 2 am. It is SO quiet from 2-5 am - like a thick blanket had been spread over the world, drowing out all sound. Except for the sound of the ocean rolling in & out, one wave after another. I could hear it, standing out on the deck, surrounded by the canyon's tall evergreens, even though the ocean was 3/4 of a mile away.

Waiting eagerly for the video!

Thank you, Irene, for directing us toward this article! I saw Palencar speak at IlluXCon this past weekend and he is so invigorating! From his work I imagined a contemplative, dreamy sort of man, and he's totally engaged and funny and lively and just plan personable! I very much enjoyed getting to hear his thoughts and see his body of work as it grew. As mentioned in the article, I too was struck by the consistency of quality and vision in Palencar's work from a young age.

Thirding the night person tendency here! I have always been a night owl since babyhood, but it's not just sleep preference, it's also when I'm most creative. A lot of people in my life think my sleeping hours are weird, funny, or contemptible, but now I can remind myself that I'm far from the only one!
