Bragging Rights

My brother, David Gallo, has been nominated for a Tony Award for "Best Scenic Design of a Play". The show is August Wilson’s last play, Radio Golf. (Seen here is my blurry snapshot taken opening night.) Last year David won the Tony for designing the musical Drowsy Chaperone.

Good luck, Dave!

(Wow - this makes me realize that The Art Department is coming up on being a year old. That just can't be.)

Wow, congrats to your brother, Irene! That's no small feat.

Your mom must have done something VERY right to have raised two kids who are successful in the art world. If she has any tricks of the trade (other than, "Never say they scribble" -- I've got that one already), I'm all ears!

Thank you, Susan, mother is indeed very proud. There is yet another son who does high tech computer imaging for business and industry. All 3 went to the arts in their own way.

I think a lot has to do with the luck of the draw and I'm not about to take credit. I would, however recommended taking kids to as many places as you can, museums, planetariums, zoos, multicultural events etc. Talk about the larger world-a lot. Follow any natural inclination, even if it seems odd or unattainable. The interst can morph into something special. For example, when Irene was in Jr High, she wanted to be a makeup artist for horror and sci-fi film (popular at the time). That evolved into an interest in art. Best wishes to you and your family.
