Company

I just got back from the opening night performance of Company.

This show is smart, funny, and fantastic!

The New York Times review starts with:

Fire flickers, dangerous and beckoning, beneath the frost of John Doyle's elegant, unexpectedly stirring revival of Company...This visually severe, aurally lush reinvention...is the chic-est looking production on Broadway.
The review goes on to praise every aspect of the production but the above relates to my brother's involvement as the set designer so, there you go.

Company wasn't one of my favorite Sondheim shows going in (that would be Sunday in the Park...or maybe A Little Night Music...or Into the Woods....hmmm, last season's Sweeny Todd was brilliant......) but this production is remarkable.

Sondheim rules!

So true.

I was hoping to get a glimpse of him at the after party but never did. I'm so looking forward to next year's SUNDAY IN THE PARK.

I saw "Sunday" on Broadway, with Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. Sweeney's my favourite, however. Hard to see run-of-the-mill productions of these, because so much is in the words, which, face it, aren't always sung perfectly. Still, there are the soundtrack recordings.

Man, what I would give to have seen Patinkin and Peters in Sunday! I spent ALL of high school listening to that recording.

In Grade School, I was still into Jesus Christ Superstar, graduated to the "Rocky Horror Show," (just before it got made into a movie, that's how cool, or rather outsiderish, I was!)

My favourite besides Sweeney was "Merrily We Roll Along," the first Original Cast Recording with the guy who played "George Costanza" in it. That show would have been hard to catch (because it ran for about a week)!

Jack,

We could be twins!...only I was a tad slower. I was listening to ROCKY HORROR in the 6th grade. Somehow my cousin had a tape of the movie in the pre-VHS days (some really large format of video tape) and I made a crappy audio recording of it. Then I listened to SUPERSTAR all throughout high school. I still love that. (The UK recording, of course.)

I like MERRILY. I hope to get a chance to see it one day. I don't know it as well as some of the others, but I always enjoy listening to it. The one that disappointed me a bit was PACIFIC OVERTURES. I liked it, but wasn't floored by the last NY production.
