David Bowers has graciously given me the OK share this progression. I've had this sitting in my email since 2005! It makes me happy to finally send these pixels out into the world.
I say this all the time, but I really do love seeing progressions and sketches as much as final paintings.

wow, that's crazy, the green under-painting in the dress before the pink finish. I'd love to pick his brain about process. I still think he's an excellent candidate for the next Art Out Loud. ;)
Wow! Thank you Mr. Bowers for allowing Irene to share this with us, it is amazing! I wish more artists showed progression shots of their images, it is so interesting to get a little glimpse into the process a work goes through before it is completed.
It's all about the process. Thanks for posting this.
Truly amazing! If only I had that kind of time. Thank you Irene and Mr. Bowers. I've been a big fan of Bowers paintings for over a decade. This process is very insightful and I can see why he would keep it under wraps.
A far cry from his days of teaching at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Thankfully he's progressed from his Mark English phase to something a bit more substantive.
I like this direction much better, allowing for a nice bit of allegory to creep into a very staid and upright style.
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful and interesting!
I'm gonna have to check that book of his out. Really crazy use of color and great painting technique.
