Hello Irene,
Just stopping by to say I really appreciate your blog and your insider's view of fantastic art. All these fantasy paperbacks and great artists made me start oil painting very recently. I really appreciated the video with Donato Giancola, Dan Dos Santos and you.
So, hello from Paris, France !

I became a fan of Robert E. Howard and his creation, Conan, a couple of years ago when the Wandering Star books started coming out. I had never read anything he had written and had many preconceived ideas about what Conan would be like, probably because of the Arnie movies. Boy was I blown away! It was nothing like I expected. I found the stories to be rich and lush. Conan, rather than an ignorant 'barbarian' was a smart, well spoken and interesting character. And the world that Howard created...wow! He was amazing. This month marks the 75th anniverary of the first published Conan adventure and I have a couple more of the short stories unread and saved just to savor this month.
That Conan the Phenomenon book is one I simply HAVE to pick up. I've done a few very long posts about the author and his creation in the past as I have become a huge fan over the past two years. I got a chance to thumb through a copy of that book and it looks...well, phenomenal!
Been a Conan and REH fan fo 30 years now, and he seems to be getting stronger even if some of the newer stories are really weak. The art however has awlasy been good.
I have to say the Manchess does the best Conan since Frazetta.
NOw someone needs to do a book like this for Burroughs and Tarzan.

My husband is a member of the Rob't E. Howard United Press Association (aka REHupa,) so we have practically everything (in every edition,) he ever published. Not only was the art stunning with it's stark beauty, but Howard's writing style is often poetic & certainly evocative.

Greg was thrilled to hear you say that!
It has to be rough, going into a project that is so well defined already -- I think Greg tried to draw from the REH's writing and attempted, as much as anyone can, that all the existing Conan imagery never happened. It's been very well received by some hardcore Conan fans so he must of touched on something of Howard's words.
I agree, Manchess has a really fresh take on the Cimmerian and such a beautiful painterly style. I've been illustrating Conan rpg books for the last few years and one of the biggest challenges is living in the shadows of the great artists and still trying to find your own voice.
Looking at the top illustration, but also the Tor cover for Gene Wolfe's "Pirate Freedom"...any influence of Howard Pyle there? I just got a second-hand "coffee table" style book of his work. Beautiful stuff!

Surprised it got mentioned to him, and thanks!
I would love to see his site updated at somepoint and some of the newer works on there.

Later my friends told me that if I want to play the game better I should go to earn the Perfect World Gold, so I was very quickly risen to thirty levels, and then I started to play the game alone.I go to Buy Perfect World Gold to treat myself in this game. However she was also very sad when I was hurt, she was sorry about this to me and I did not complain her at last. I was very happy and we went to earn the Perfect World Silver to equip us to become strong. Today I play the game again and I can get a lot of Perfect World money for her, I take her to upgrade and then add her experience. I have a lot of cheap Perfect World Gold and I want to give her in the game, i can have a lot of pw gold if my skills of playing the game well.
