My Mind's Been Melded

SF Signal asked a number of artists and me:

"What do you feel is the primary purpose of a book cover: To accurately reflect the story or to visually 'sell' the book? How do you balance these two ideas when creating a cover?"

I think as an artist.....illustrator, that my job should be to compliment the story and hopefully intice the reader into it without overshadowing the writing or giving the plot or subtext of the story away.

As to whether or not a cover can sell a book only one word/name is needed:

Frazetta

Donato
Dos Santos
Boris
DeVito
Lockwood
Brom
Gurney
Manchess
Mcginnis

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

It is the cover that entices me to pick up the book.

Once the book is in my hand, I'll read the blurb, even if it is an author I know and love. If the blurb entices me, I buy the book.

Once I played Anarchy, I did not know how to get strong, someone told me that you must have Anarchy credits. He gave me some Anarchy Online credits, he said that I could buy AO credits, but I did not have money, then I played it all my spare time. From then on, I got some Anarchy online gold, if I did not continue to play it, I can sell Anarchy gold to anyone who want.
