Ira Glass, Taller Than He Sounds

Just back from a live edition of This American Life and I'm walking three feet off the ground. Ira Glass is freakin' amazing. I hate to get all "I was into Ira before grass evolved" but I became addicted to Talk of the Nation when he was the host and I nearly cried when he left. He promised to come back on the air with something exciting and, of course, he did in spades. Odd then, that I haven't seen any of the television show until now (although not having cable might factor into that.) From what he showed tonight, the televised version is every bit as brilliant, poignant, and funny as the radio show. So, it's off to Amazon with me!

I used to ALWAYS listen to him on NPR! It was a sad day when he left. Now I'll have to see if I can find him on TV.

ooh! I'm glad to hear a good review- I was wondering about this. I'm so jealous you got to see him live!

Did you see him in the flesh, Irene, or at one of the live broadcasts to movie theaters? My wife and I saw the show last night here in Philly, and really enjoyed it. We don't have cable, either, so we're just fans of the radio show, but we'll have to Netflix the first season on Showtime now.
Our only beef with last night's show was the slightly antagonistic Q&A session at the end. We thought Ira could have been a little easier on a few of the questioners.
By the way, ces–Glass is still on public radio every week. Though maybe your local station doesn't carry This American Life?

Adam,

Yeah, our local station doesn't carry him. I'm going to have to search to see if I can find him on Internet Radio.

Thanks for letting me know he's still on public radio!

Hey Ces - I beleive you can listen to the shows as podcasts.

Adam -- He was, indeed, fleshy and breathing. Actually, I saw him do a live show years ago, as well.

I wasn't so surprised at the way he talked to the questioners, but i know what you mean. He's been interviewed on my local station fairly often so I guess I was used to his non-TAL persona being a little tougher.

By the way, Adam, a coworker came into my office and saw my copy of FRANKENSTEIN MAKES A SANDWICH n display. He wondered if it might be god for his grandkids, read one age, snap it shut, and said, "I'm going to Barnes and Noble right now."

Irene,

Really? Thanks! I'll have to go look when I get home. Right now I'm in San Francisco (got here yesterday)through Tuesday, May 2.

The hotel has internet access, but it's really sssllloooooooowww, and searches would time out before finishing.

We went too -- what a great bunch of clips & such. Been a devoted listener for years now -- I keep waiting to see if they take the TV show back to do another 24 hours at the Golden Apple diner, with pictures this time...

Once I played Anarchy, I did not know how to get strong, someone told me that you must have Anarchy credits. He gave me some Anarchy Online credits, he said that I could buy AO credits, but I did not have money, then I played it all my spare time. From then on, I got some Anarchy online gold, if I did not continue to play it, I can sell Anarchy gold to anyone who want.
