Society of Illustrators Student Exhibit

...speaking of the Society of Illustrators' Student Exhibition: Randy Gallegos wrote to tell me the winners for this year's competition have been posted on the Society's website. Congrats to each and every one of these kids.

Randy has an excellent in-depth report on the part part judging process -- one day to see who gets into the show, a second day to see who gets which awards.

Love that H.P. Lovecraft portrait! The tentacle tie cracked me up. Do you know who did that one?

Irene: Yes! This year's show really is stunning. Also, because of th enew walls at the Society, I've decided to require that all work be professionally framed as opposed to just either matting or mounting. The show is going to look as professional...well, as the professionals. But of course also, this year was a remarkable increase in quality of work from the students. There is just some amazing things going on in there! Thank you for doing the Microvisions and help raise money for some scholarships! Yay! See you at the opening May 8th! -Scott

Good idea, Scott. Never too early to learn about presentation...from websites, to mailers, portfolios, to art shows...it makes a big difference.

Cant wait for the opening!

Awe shucks. Thanks for including my piece up there Irene!

Man- after looking at all the other art in the show, I am completely humbled. I think this is the strongest year I've seen since starting school. I can't wait to meet all these people and gush.

And yeah, that Lovecraft portrait makes me jealous. One of those brilliant/simple ideas I wish I had come up with.

Also- can I just mention how proud of SVA I am right now. Second only to Ringling in number of students accepted.

. It would be interesting to know how many students that got into the show will actually be in NY in May for the show. The artwork is just mesmerizing.

Typically a lot of the students go. I've been to it every year for the past long while. Although, this time I was sad to hear Ringling College is having their graduation on the same day. Ringling is ALL over this show. It'll be a shame to miss meeting their seniors.
